Robin

Robin Nest 1 Hatched
This one was also the first to leave the nest
First born. The eggs hatch on different days because the parents have to be able to find food for them and it is easier to deal with one-at-a-time than four.

Since we have a natural sanctuary, there was plenty of food at all times
Once they begin eating, they grow up fast, and demand more food. I watched this nest from start to finish and can say that any sound close to the nest and the birds stretch their heads up as far as they can and open as wide as they can.

Robins Feeding
I watched all of them leave the nest and fly away.
The parents seem to know which one was last fed. I think the baby birds give them a clue by not opening their mouth or stretching their necks. The first one to hatch will also be the first one to leave the nest and fly for the first time. The others watch and take turns standing on the edge of the nest and watch the first one but they only try it or fly away in the same order that they were born or hatched.

Waiting on poop sack
Waiting on the poop sack
After each parent feeds one of the birds it waits paitently waits on one of the birds to poop. It comes out in a white sack that is sealed. The parent picks it up and flies away with it and drops it somewhere away from the nest. Why? So predators can't locate the nest by smell.

After eating, they get sleepy and soon their heads are dangling over the edge
This happened all the time. I found the babies sleep a lot especially after all of them have been fed. The parents get a much-needed break and can eat for themselves.

The clean nest after being used by the robins above.
When these birds left the nest, I carefully took it down and it was spotless inside. I took this photo so I would remember how nice it was.

First out of nest
First born and the first to fly away.
This is the first one hatched or born and the first in everything including the first to fly away from the nest and he landed here on this limb while the others remained in the nest and watched.
