About my photography
I do try to take the guesswork out of my photography and I do work with mental composition while I am focusing on the subject. In this case, I used a zoom lens to get as close as possible while framing the image the way I would want it to look when it is cropped. This is the picture I download from my camera?s storage card into my computer. I use Photoshop CS4 for all editing if any is required. The first thing I do when I get the picture in Photoshop is open it to full size or 100%. Then I am able to see any color noise and can filter that out (This image was filtered). This is what I highlighted at 100% ? it is the image I wanted to use so it would be where I cropped the original image. Not much was eliminated in cropping but some dead leaves, sticks and stones are gone. I always duplicate the image and then combine the duplicates into one ? that process sharpens and intensifies the image. If the original is in need of a global fix, I do that before sharpening ? using ?unsharp mask? set at 84%, 1 pixel, 4 threshold ? level.
The process is always the same. I could and have created an ?Action? for some of this but more often than not each picture is unique and requires some specific attention. The thing you took the picture of in the first place should always be the focus of the picture. If it isn?t then you will have to compose the image by cropping to make it the subject and not confusion in the background.
